Culver, Oregon RV Camping Sites
Very nice county park next to Fern Ridge lake. Combination of trees and open areas with most of the sites under at least some trees. Each site had a wide blacktop parking surface and even though there was a small branch that needed to be trimmed we were able to pull to one side of the pad to avoid it and still remain on the blacktop. We had no problem maneuvering our 38′ MH into our site which was out of level enough that our rear jacks were about as high as they could go and our front jack was as low as it could go and still have contact with the ground.
But it was not out of level enough to have to use blocks to level. A casual glance at other sites gave the impression that they were similar; some a little better and some a little worse.

When camping Columbia gorge, it pays to be a little deaf Updated October 28, at 9: By the way, one of my “best of camping” listing categories is waterfalls. Does this one at the dam count? Sometimes it’s a good thing to be a little deaf. At least that was the sentiment I found recently during a campground survey in the Columbia River Gorge. When I asked one retired couple if the noise from Interstate 84 and two main line rail lines bothered them, they winked, pretended to turn up their hearing aids and asked me to repeat the question.
No, they said, they learn to live with it. Their spookiest time in the gorge came one summer when the wildfire as Cascade Locks forced the state to close the freeway and railroad for a number of hours. The quiet was deafening, especially while waiting to hear the sounds of the fire coming around the next hill. They were spared any grief in Wyeth campground, though the hosts next door at Herman Creek campground were given 15 minutes to leave.
So, if you really are hankering to camp in the Columbia River Gorge, what follows is a summation of the campgrounds I found between the Multnomah Falls area all the way out to Boardman, on the Oregon side. Bring ear plugs, but note that the gorge is such a spectacular place that a little bit of noise is worth it.
